Our core activity is the production of coke from quality coking coal, acquired not only from the Ostrava-Karviná mining district, a constituent part of the Upper Silesian coalfield, but also from other parts of Europe and the world. Our products are essential in the manufacturing of thermal insulation and in the production of iron, as well as in the chemical industry and other industries.
We rank among the leading European coke producers. We can look to the future with optimism as iron production - and with it coke consumption - has been growing fast on the global scale for the past several years. Coke prices have also steadily increased since 2005.
Besides producing various types of coke, made for our demanding clients on both domestic and foreign markets, our coking plants produce considerable quantities of coal gas, desulphurised to less than 50 mg/m3, tar, benzol, ammonium sulphate and elementary sulphur. The production capacity of OKK Koksovny, a.s. which has a single operating coking plant and a total of 720 employees, is approximately 800,000 tonnes of wet-quenched coke per year (800 kt ckm/year).
