OKK Koksovny, a.s.

Our main sphere of business is the coke production from quality cokeable coal gained not only in the Ostrava-Karviná coalfield, which is part of the Upper Silesian coal basin, but also coal from other parts of Europe and world. Our products are necessary for the production of thermal insulations, iron production, chemical production and many other industries. 

We belong to the top companies in Europe in the cokemaking industry. We can be optimistic about our future because iron production - and therefore the need for coke - is increasing fast worldwide recently. Also the price of coke has been steadily growing since 2005. According to the last estimations published by our parent company, NWR, in December 2007, we dispose of reserves in the volume of at least 218 million tons of cokeable coal. This is approximately twice as the previous estimation. The volume of reserves secures coke production in OKK Koksovny, a.s. for at least another 20 years.

In addition to various types of coke produced for exacting clientele on both domestic and foreign markets, coking plants produce indispensable volume of coke-oven gas, desulphurised below the level of 500 mg/m3, tar, benzol, ammonium sulphate and elementary sulphur. The production capacity of OKK Koksovny, a.s. with two operated coking plants and total 1,100 employees was 840 kt ckm/year as on 31st December 2009.
