Coking plant Svoboda

Coking plant Svoboda now operates four coke oven batteries (Nos. 7, 8, 9 and 10). The total number of coking chambers is 210 (50 + 54 + 50 + 56). The capacity of each chamber is approximately 16 tonnes of coke, with a production cycle lasting between 32 and 34 hours.

Coking battery No. 10 (56 chambers) was recommissioned, following its construction, in autumn 2010. The compaction system of the plant makes it especially suitable for the production of foundry types of coke. The plant uses its own enrichment agent in the production of all types of coke. The current annual production of coking plant Svoboda is approximately 800,000 tonnes of coke.

A gradual repair of the masonry at coke oven battery No. 8 was finished in 2010, complete with the installation of a new charging and pushing machine. A construction of mini rising pipes on the No. 8 battery ceiling and new coke transfer car began in 2011.

History

Coking plant Svoboda was founded in 1908 and given the name “František”. The plant was later renamed several times (General Svoboda, Victorious February, then Svoboda). Following intricate developments, the plant became a part of the company Ostravsko karvinské koksovny in 1952, sharing the history of the company afterwards. 

History of commissioning and decommissioning of individual batteries at Svoboda:

*** - an installation of new coke transfer car and mini rising pipes on the No. 8 battery ceiling began in 2011

Upon the inception of Ostravsko karvinské koksovny, coking plant Svoboda operated a coal washing station, coking batteries Nos. 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, high-pressure compressors (1.0 MPa), a pressure separation of hydrogen sulphide and a tube furnace in the benzol separation circuit.
